We will ensure they are held accountable. “Eternal memory to all the people whose lives were taken by Russian terror.”he emphasized.

On March 16, 2022, Russian aviation bombed the theater that had been converted in refuge for around 600 peopledespite large letters on the outside of the building warning that there were children inside.

They died in the attack, according to different estimates between 300 and 600 people.

The Ombudsman of Ukraine, Dmitro Lubinetsrecalled on his Telegram channel that the theater was a food and water distribution center and a designated collection point for evacuations.

“Ukrainian civilians were hiding there from the constant shelling and waiting for the evacuation. Women, children, elderly people, pregnant women and women in labor with babies evacuated from the maternity unit. “Everyone died in the rubble” he remembered.

The Russians demolished the remains of the building after occupying the city in May 2022 to, according to Lubinets, “hide the traces of the crime” in this city, which was besieged by troops from Kremlin for weeks, causing humanitarian catastrophe.

The walls (of the building) can be destroyed, but not the memory. We remember. There will be severe punishments for all war crimes.”stressed the Ukrainian Ombudsman.
