It’s a statement, Maduro congratulated the head of the Kremlin and his political movement “on the overwhelming victory” and “extended its recognition to the glorious Russian people, for their deep commitment to democracy”.

The Russian people and government boldly and wisely managed to overcome the multidimensional attacks that Russia has suffered in recent times and they will continue to do so with the determination and dynamism that have characterized them throughout their memorable history.“, says the letter, released by Itamaraty.

What is more, Maduro’s Executive sent “congratulations to President Putinto his family and to all of Russia, which will certainly follow the path of new and historic victories.”

Putin, in power since 2000, will remain in the Kremlin until 2030 after reaching 87.34% of the votes, according to the 50% vote count reported by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC).

The 71-year-old president achieved his biggest electoral victory despite the war in Ukraine and Western economic sanctions, and could run for re-election again, as in 2020 he reformed the clauses of the Constitution that prevented him from remaining in the Kremlin.

The opposition to the Kremlin was unable to attend the electionssince the CEC did not register its candidates for various technical reasons or formal defects, to support peace in Ukraine.

The CEC, which did not invite Western observers, today denied that serious irregularities had occurredalthough independent experts and the press in exile have reported several cases of electoral manipulation.

The elections were marked by drone attacks and incursions on the Ukrainian borderwhich left several dead and led Putin to accuse Kiev of trying to torpedo his re-election.
