“We are being prepared for mobilization”: after the terrorist attack in Moscow, Putin imposes his truth

On Friday evening, when four armed men entered the Crocus City Hall concert hall in Moscow to kill more than 130 people, according to uncertain reports on Saturday evening, Russian society reacted in two ways. There are those who remember these buildings, which were bombed in 1999 and whose consequences contributed to the election of Vladimir Putin after they were attributed to Chechen separatists. But FSB agents were found planting bags of explosives in the building, suggesting a political conspiracy. On Friday evening, many were imagining the security services’ manipulations in light of the 1999 terrorist attack.

And there are others, like Svetlana, in her fifties, who are favorably disposed towards the Russian president. “For me, this story is typically Ukrainian. They are shooting at the city of Belgorod, well, it’s the same thing! ” she assesses, frightened by the situation. As a result of two years of military propaganda that has captivated society and systematically portrayed Ukraine as the main enemy, many Russians saw the hand of Kyiv in the attack.
