Venezuela: opposition asks CNE to extend candidate registration deadline by three days

The Unitary Democratic Platform (PUD) – the main opposition coalition in the Venezuela– this Sunday asked the National Electoral Council (CNE) to extend by three days the deadline for nominating candidates for the presidential elections on July 28, a task that, according to anti-Chavism, it has not been able to carry out due to alleged impediments.

According to a communication sent to CNEthe request for a three-day extension – until March 28 – seeks to “remedy the violations of fact and law that occurred in the process” and power “proceed to the application” which was “impossible”.

In the platform’s opinion, “Constitutional rights were violated,” among those mentioned by “participate in public affairs directly or through elected representatives.”

In this regard, He demanded that he be allowed to “appoint” historian Corina Yorischosen last Friday as candidate due to the disqualification that prevents anti-Chavista leader María Corina Machado, winner of the October 22 primaries, from running.
