Putin guarantees that those responsible for the attack in Moscow tried to flee to Ukraine

In a speech broadcast this Saturday on television to the entire nation, the President of Russia Vladimir Putinthanked the doctors and security officers who helped the victims of the attack in Moscow.

This is the Russian president’s first public speech after the attack, which took place on Friday, at around 8 pm (local time), in a concert hall on the outskirts of Moscow, which left at least 133 dead and more than 140 injured.

Putin said in his speech – which lasted about five minutes – that the four armed men responsible for the shooting was detained.

He also highlighted that they tried flee to Ukraine.

“They tried to hide and headed towards Ukraine, where, according to preliminary data, a window was prepared for them on the Ukrainian side to cross the state border,” he said.

Prior to its message, Kiev said allegations that Ukraine was involved in the attack were “absurd”.

Putin described the attack on the concert hall as a “barbaric terrorist act” and added that the attackers “will not divide us”.

“Whoever they are, whoever guides them. I repeat: we will identify and punish all those who support terrorists”, said the Russian president.

“The most important thing now is to prevent those behind this bloodbath from committing a new crime.”

On the other hand, he announced that Sunday, the 24th, will be a day of national mourning.

New details

As the hours passed, new details began to emerge about the attack and its perpetrators.

Russian deputy Alexander Khinshtein said the attackers fled in a white Renault car.

According to him, the police tried to stop the vehicle in the region of Bryansk, about 340 kilometers from Moscowand managed to detain two people while the others fled.

About 14 hours after first reports of the shooting, the Russian FSB security service announced that 11 people had been arrested, including four “directly involved.”

Their identities have not been announced. But unconfirmed reports mention citizens of Tajikistan.

Khinshtein said the country’s passports were found in the car.
