In Brazil, Lula makes mistakes and confuses Macron and Sarkozy

Relations between Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Emmanuel Macron are in good shape. Since the start of his official visit to Brazil on Tuesday, March 26, the French President appeared smiling next to his Brazilian counterpart. The excellent footage offered to the media did not prevent the Brazilian President from making a small gaffe, which was quickly corrected.

Speaking to the press, Lula, 78, baffled Emmanuel Macron and his predecessor Nicolas Sarkozy, with whom he had met several times.

“We have a little problem here. The press will leave for logistical reasons. People must leave. Sarkozy and I are going to go to Rio de Janeiro this evening,” he told the French head of state, who revealed nothing. After a few seconds, Lula corrected himself: “Macron and I are going to Rio de Janeiro this evening. »

As with Nicolas Sarkozy in 2008, Lula greeted Emmanuel Macron with great fanfare. The visit of the former head of state ended with the signing of major commercial contracts 16 years ago.

This time, the two leaders announced a green investment program for the Amazon. The two countries will also cooperate on a “new submarine program,” particularly nuclear-powered ones, and are working on helicopters.
