María Corina Machado calls for a “global protest” against the “electoral blockade” in Venezuela

The opposition leader of Venezuela Maria Corina Machado called up this Tuesday to participate next Saturday in a “global protest” against him “electoral blockade” which, he denounced, the Government is imposing in his country, facing the presidential elections on July 28th.

In a message released by X, accompanied by a video, the former anti-Chavista deputy invited Venezuelans living abroad to “say it louder” in “several cities around the world” against him “blocking”, for which he blamed the president Nicolás Madurowho will seek a third consecutive term in July.

Today we have to make the world listen to us, we have obtained very important support and we need to continue moving forward (…) we will not allow Nicolás Maduro to choose which candidate will face him, because we, Venezuelans, are the ones who have the right“, said the liberal.

Likewise, he asked migrants to go to consulates to register on the electoral register to be able to participate in the July elections, a process that had been delayed in several countries, and he therefore called on them to report any impediment.

This Saturday, April 6th, the world has to see this Venezuela united, firm, determined to advance on the path to freedom”, he added, without specifying the cities where these protests will take place.

Machado, elected in the primaries as the majority opposition candidate, was unable to register to contest the elections due to a sanction imposed by the General Comptroller’s Office that prevents her from holding public office until 2036.

The former deputy proposed to the philosopher Corina Yoris as his replacement and was not admitted by the National Electoral Council (CNE), so it remains to be seen who Machado will support in the elections.

Meanwhile, the opposition insists on maintaining the organization of the votes, this time aimed at Venezuelans abroad, a group made up of 7.7 million people, according to estimates by the United Nations Organization (UN) that are rejected by the Government, which estimates the number of migrants at two million.
