Russia records more than 900 deaths from coronavirus for sixth consecutive day

Russia registered 957 deaths from covid-19 in the last day, which is the sixth consecutive day above 900, according to data from the operational center for the fight against coronavirus published today.

Moscow, the epicenter of the pandemic, reported 71 deaths from covid-19, followed by Saint Petersburg (63).

Since the start of the pandemic, the country has reported 217,327 deaths due to covid-19, although the official statistics on excess deaths in the same period triple this figure.

In addition, 29,409 new infections were detected in the 85 regions of the country, 2,608 of them without clinical manifestations.

This is the second highest figure since October 9.

On Russia the incidence has increased significantly since the second half of September and growth has intensified in October, a rise that authorities attribute to the Delta variant and the coincidence with the flu season.

In the capital there were 5,002 new cases in the last day.

According to the Mayor’s Office, the number of infections has increased 1.5 times and hospitalizations of patients in serious condition have doubled in the last two weeks.

2,931 new infections were reported in Saint Petersbugro and 2,184 in the Moscow region.

So far as a pandemic, in Russia 7,804,774 people have been infected with covid-19, of which 6,873,579 have recovered from the disease.

The country is the fifth in the world with the most cases of coronavirus behind the United States, India, Brazil and the United Kingdom.

Despite the steady increase in cases, the Russian authorities have not yet considered reintroducing restrictive measures.

At the same time, they try to increase the low vaccination rate. To date, only 30.8% of the population or 45 million citizens have received the complete guideline.
