The Israeli army announced this Saturday that it had discovered overnight in Khan Younes (south of the Gaza Strip) the body of a hostage whom it said was killed in captivity.

Elad Katzir, who was 47 years old when he was kidnapped on October 7 from Kibbutz Nir Oz, “was reportedly killed in captivity by the terrorist organization Islamic Jihad,” the army and Shin Bet (inland region) said in a joint statement. intelligence).

The hostage’s body has been identified and repatriated

His mother Hannah, also taken hostage, was released on November 24 as part of the only truce between Israel and Hamas in six months of war. His father Abraham was killed on the day the Palestinian Islamist movement attacked the kibbutz.

Elad Katzir’s body was repatriated to Israel, where he was officially identified, the army said, expressing its “deepest condolences to the family.” “Our task is to find and return the hostages home,” she added.

If not for Elad’s sister Katsira, his release alive “might have been possible if an agreement on the hostages had been reached in time. Our leaders are cowardly and motivated by political considerations, which is why no agreement has yet been reached.” “Elad was taken from his home in Nir Oz alive and unharmed and was filmed twice during his captivity,” notes Karmit Palti Katzir on his Facebook account.

“The Prime Minister, the War Cabinet, members of the (government) coalition. Look in the mirror and tell me there’s not this blood on your hands,” she adds. More than 250 people were kidnapped on October 7 and taken as hostages to the Gaza Strip, where 130 people are still being held, 34 of whom are already dead, according to the Israeli army.
