Child murder in Serbia: two accomplices arrested, body still sought

Serbian authorities announced this Saturday that they have arrested two accomplices in the fatal shooting of a two-year-old girl, whose body was hidden in a landfill and then transported to an unknown location.

Little Danka Ilic disappeared on March 26 from the town of Bor (East), and her face was in the headlines for 10 days when authorities announced their first two arrests on Wednesday, April 3.

The little girl’s body has still not been found anywhere.

The Serbian Interior Minister then explained that, according to preliminary information, the little girl was hit a few minutes after she ran away from her parents’ supervision. The driver and his passenger then hid his body in a landfill, he said.

He added on Saturday that the two arrested suspects were alleged accomplices who helped them move the body from the dump to an as-yet-unknown location, probably on March 28. Police continue to search for the body, the location of which the suspects did not indicate.

After her disappearance, Serbia used a large-scale alert system for the first time about Amber’s kidnapping – everyone with a phone received a text message with her description. Last Sunday, Interpol also issued a yellow alert for the discovery of this little girl, 85cm tall, with “a mole on her left earlobe and an irregularly shaped and slightly darker colored birthmark on her front left arm.”
