The Organization of American States (OAS) has called a meeting for Tuesday, April 9, at the request of Ecuador, to discuss the recent incident with Mexico triggered after the attack by Ecuadorian forces on the Mexican embassy in Quito to remove former vice-president Luis Glas, an ally of Rafael Correa, from there.

The extraordinary meeting of the OAS was convened at 3pm local time on Tuesday in Washington (7pm GMT) and will have as its agenda the “Rules of diplomatic relations and asylum”.

Ecuador is, therefore, ahead of Luis Almagro himself, president of OASwho on Saturday announced that he intended to request a meeting of the institution’s Permanent Council to discuss the issue, after having unequivocally rejected the attack on the embassy and “any action that violates or puts at risk” the inviolability enjoyed by diplomatic missions.
