Moscow announces the start of an investigation into “terrorist financing” involving Ukraine and the West

Russia’s Investigative Committee announced on Tuesday it had launched an investigation into “terrorism financing” directed against Ukraine and involving the United States and its allies. Without providing the slightest evidence, Moscow accuses Washington of financing terrorist attacks carried out by Kiev through a Ukrainian company where the son of American President Joe Biden worked.

“The investigation is examining the sources and movement of funds amounting to several million US dollars and the involvement of government collaborators and public and commercial organizations from Western countries,” the organization added in a press release, citing the name of the gas company Burisma. Hunter Biden sat on the board of directors.

Investigators allege, without detailing the case, that Burisma served as an intermediary for funds used “in recent years to carry out terrorist attacks in Russia and abroad in order to eliminate individuals.” Since the Russian invasion began, Ukraine has been a prime suspect in targeted killings.

Investigation at the request of Russian deputies

Russia also believes that Ukraine, along with jihadists, was involved in the March 22 attack on the Crocus City Hall concert hall on the outskirts of Moscow, which killed 144 people. Kyiv and the West rejected this version of the facts, which has not yet been confirmed, especially since the Islamic State group took responsibility for the terrorist attack.

According to the Investigative Committee of Russia, the investigation was launched after a request from Russian deputies about “financing of terrorist activities by high-ranking officials of the United States and NATO countries.”

Hunter Biden regularly highlighted

Hunter Biden’s collaboration with Burisma is one of the favorite themes of White House opponents, even picked up by Republican elected officials. The president’s son, like his father, has always denied committing any illegal or even immoral acts. And the investigation has not yet been successful.

In February, a former FBI informant was even arrested on charges of fabricating false corruption charges against Joe and Hunter Biden.

Alexander Smirnov, 43, a former US-Israeli federal police informant, is suspected of lying to his handler in 2020 by passing along false information about the Biden family provided by Russian intelligence services.

In particular, he wrongly accused the American president and his son of each receiving a bribe of five million dollars to allow Burisma to avoid prosecution.
