The arrest, he explained, occurs after months of work by investigative police, experts and ministerial staff from the Sexual Crimes Investigation Office, who documented complaints, genetic profiles and interviews.

The prosecutor described the man as a “possible serial rapist”, although she omitted more information about his identity and ‘modus operandi’, limiting herself to noting that his alleged crimes took place in the south of Mexico City.

The official promised that the FGJ-CDMX integrates the file to take the suspect to a control judge, without specifying what the charges and penalties he will face will be.

“This person will no longer harm any woman in our city, fighting impunity is the best way to prevent violence against women”, Godoy promised.

Mexico It faces a crisis of sexist violence with the murder of more than 10 women a day, according to UN Women and civil organizations, either for intentional homicides and femicides, the crime of killing a woman for gender reasons.

The National Commission to Prevent and Eradicate Violence against Women (Conavim) urged this Monday greater coordination to reduce femicides, noting that 672 have been documented in the country between January and August.

The agency warned that a quarter of these crimes are concentrated in only 20 municipalities or local demarcations, among which are Gustavo A. Madero and Cuauhtémoc, from Mexico City.

Prosecutor Godoy asked victims of sexual violence to report their assailants.

“Trust us, report it, we are prepared to protect you, to investigate and open the doors of justice”, He concluded.
