Terror in Australia: at least five people stabbed to death in a Sydney shopping center

At least five people were stabbed to death this Saturday in a Sydney shopping center, in an attack in which several other people were injured and whose alleged perpetrator was shot dead by Sydney police. Australia, official sources and local media outlets reported. Anthony Cooke, assistant commissioner of the New South Wales state police, said in statements carried by state television ABC that “five people died as a result of the criminal’s actions.”

“Several other people were taken to the hospital,” added the police officer, who specified that several of them were in serious condition.

Cooke pointed out that The attacks were carried out by a single individualshot dead by police, although earlier reports said officers were looking for a second assailant.

“Based on preliminary investigation, it appears this person acted alone,” Cooke added.

Preliminary investigations indicate that The attacker entered the popular Westfield Bondi Junction shopping center at 3.10pm local time (5.10am GMT), he left shortly afterwards and returned around ten minutes later when he was confronted by “around nine people”.

A police inspector confronted the aggressorwho turned to her with a do in hand, then The agent “fired a firearm” at him, according to Cooke’s account.

“That person died,” he said in reference to the alleged killer.

Waverley Council, the district of Sydney in which the incident occurred, indicated on the social network Emergency services rushed to the shopping center “following reports that several people had been stabbed”.

According to the ABC, the New South Wales Ambulance Service said that At least seven people were stabbed, including a nine-month-old babyand were transferred to the nearest hospitals.

It is unclear whether these seven people include the five deceased.

Although one attacker was killed, according to ABC, police are looking for at least a second attacker in the mall, which was evacuated, and the surrounding area.

No details about the criminals or their possible motivations have been released so far.

According to Australian media, Hundreds of people were evacuated from the mall after the attackwhile images on social media showed people rushing away from the scene as police vehicles and ambulances arrived.
