News channels, movies, documentaries…Trump’s social network Truth Social launches video streaming service

Donald Trump continues to develop his social network. His media company announced on Tuesday the launch of a video streaming service in the midst of the re-election campaign of the former US president, who is also facing his first criminal trial in New York. Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) said in a statement that it has completed a six-month testing phase of its “new television streaming platform.”

The company plans to begin distributing content on the mobile app and website of Truth Social, Donald Trump’s social network launched in early 2022, and then build its own app first for smartphones and tablets and then for connected TVs.

Falling share prices on the stock market

The new streaming service will, in particular, offer content typical of “news, religion or family channels,” as well as films and documentaries “deprogrammed or at risk of deprogrammed” by other platforms, the press release details. “We want to consistently deliver high-quality news and entertainment that is discriminated against by other channels and streaming services. There is a lot of great content out there that is not finding an audience for unfair reasons,” said Devin Nunes, CEO of TMTG, as quoted in the press release.

Truth Social has generated just a few million dollars in revenue since its inception, and TMTG, which went public in late March, has seen its shares collapse. Its value, which reached nearly $11 billion on its first day of trading, has since fallen by more than two-thirds.

The Republican presidential candidate, already indicted in several financial cases, faces criminal charges starting Monday for concealing payments. He is accused of buying the silence of former pornographic film star Stormy Daniels days before the 2016 election, which he narrowly defeated Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. In court, he condemned the “attack” on America.

He recently posted a video showing an image of Joe Biden appearing bound, drawing the ire of the US president’s campaign team, who accused the businessman of inciting “political violence”.
