War in Ukraine: several people died as a result of the Russian strike on Chernigov, Zelensky regrets the lack of help

Explosive missiles and drones continue to rain down on Ukraine on a daily basis. At least eight people were killed and 18 others were injured in a triple Russian strike this Wednesday morning in Chernigov, a large city in northern Ukraine, according to a new statement from the city’s mayor. “As a result of Russian missile attacks on Chernigov, eight people were killed and 18 were injured. Search and rescue work continues,” city mayor Alexander Lomako said on Telegram.

At 9:03 local time, “three explosions occurred in the city,” the mayor said earlier on television. He previously stated that it was “a direct blow to the building of social infrastructure.”

“Many wounded”

The governor of the region of the same name, of which Chernigov is the capital, indicated that the attack “almost” affected the city center, reporting “dead civilians” and “many wounded.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky subsequently estimated that his army was unable to prevent a triple Russian strike on the city of Chernigov due to a lack of air defense capabilities due to dwindling Western military aid. “This would not have happened if Ukraine had received enough air defense capabilities and if the world’s resolve to resist Russian terror was sufficient,” he lamented on social networks.

Before the Russian invasion two years ago, Cherniguev, one of Ukraine’s oldest cities founded more than 1,000 years ago, was home to almost 300,000 residents. It is located about sixty kilometers from the border with Belarus, a Russian ally.
