Middle East: IDF claims to have ‘eliminated half’ of Lebanese Hezbollah commanders

Clashes between the IDF and Hezbollah continue. The Israeli army announced this Wednesday that it had “killed half” of the commanders of the Lebanese movement close to Iran.

Earlier this Wednesday, the IDF announced that it had struck 40 Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon. The Israeli army added that an “offensive action” was underway. It was not immediately clear whether Israeli troops had entered Lebanese territory.

“Recently, Israeli army warplanes and artillery struck about 40 Hezbollah terrorist sites in the Aita al-Shaab area of southern Lebanon, including weapons storage sites,” the army statement said.

Daily skirmishes

On Tuesday, Hezbollah announced it had fired dozens of rockets into northern Israel in response to Israeli attacks on civilians hours earlier. Lebanese media said the Israeli strike killed a woman and a 12-year-old girl. The Lebanese News Agency reported that six other people were injured.

Lebanese Hezbollah, an ally of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, has been engaged in daily firefights with Israel since the war began in the Gaza Strip on October 7. Tens of thousands of people have fled communities on both sides of the border.
