US: influencer Gabby Petito strangled to death nearly a month before being found, autopsy reveals

Gabby Petito, the American influencer who disappeared while traveling with her boyfriend, died of strangulation, according to the autopsy, authorities reported Tuesday.

“The cause of death is strangulation, in that way, it is homicide”said the doctor Brent Blue, at a press conference in Wyoming, where the body of the 22-year-old girl was found. Petito’s disappearance shocked the United States.

He added that he believes Petito died three or four weeks before his body was found on September 19 near Grand Teton National Park, in the remote north of Wyoming.

The medical examiner declined to comment on whether Petito, Brian Laundrie, would be responsible, nor did he give details about the conditions in which the young woman’s body was found.

It is unclear whether the autopsy result could lead to additional charges against the boyfriend and travel companion of Petito, Brian Laundrie, who is considered a person of interest in the disappearance of the young woman and remains unaccounted for.

Gabby Petito I was traveling through USA with her boyfriend. Her parents reported her missing on September 11 after she did not respond to calls and texts for several days while the couple visited parks in the west of the country.
