“My sister (Karina MileiSecretary General of the Presidency) is carrying out this negotiation and there is a level of hostility towards me and our people. This makes us suspect that There is an intention to sabotage the presentation, Kirchnerist style“, he said Milei to El Observador radio.

Since before the opening of the book fair on April 23, There were already frictions between the Government and the organizers.

Milei I didn’t want to use one of the fair’s usual halls, but the Rural Society’s open-air exhibition courtsomething that had not been done before and which was considered an embarrassment to the organizers.

On the opening day of the fair, the president of the The Foundation of the Book -responsible for the event- Alejandro Vaccaroironically commented on the president’s participation to criticize the lack of resources that the State allocates to culture.

”Your participation involves a series of expenses that the Foundation cannot cover. Mr President, I say this with my hand on my heart: there is no money“, he said Vaccarodressing the most quoted phrase by Milei to justify his economic adjustment policies and the laws he promotes in his country’s Congress to reinforce spending cuts.

Vaccaro He added that “everything related to your safety will be up to you or, what will be worse, “It will be an extra expense for the National Treasury”.

He also warned that The survival of the fair is at risk “due to economic measures that drag (the book sector) to a world very far from the paradise that (Jorge Luis) Borges imagined.”

On Wednesday, in an interview with El Observador radio, Milei described the speech as “violent” Vaccaroof whom he pointed out to be from “Kirchnerist” and accused him of “encouraging culturally inappropriate behavior.”

What is behind this question? Local analysts consider that broad sectors of culture are up in arms against Milei because of austerity policies which was implemented with the aim of reducing the fiscal deficit.

Among other adjustment measures in the cultural sector, the Government announced the closure of the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Theater Institutereduced items destined for the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCA) and the National Institute of Music.

The Argentine newspaper La Nación reported this Thursday that Alejandro Vaccaro assured that the main problem with Casa Rosada was that they demanded 5,000 free tickets from the El Libro Foundation if Milei led the event. According to Vaccaro’s calculations, this represents 25 million pesos (about US$28,000).

Vaccaro also said that on Tuesday between 20 and 25 people from the General Secretariat of the Presidency and the Military House arrived at the fair grounds, and that there they arranged the details and security for the presentation of the Milei. He even said that the Government’s idea was for it to be done in the central area, that the organization was not hired, but that La Rural “worked without any problems” for Milei.

“The only thing I see, which appears there spinning, is that They asked us for 5,000 free tickets to the event. In principle, as president of the Foundation, I do not have the authority to give out 5,000 tickets. Those 5,000 tickets on a Sunday cost $25 million. We said we couldn’t, the only thing we said wasn’t that we couldn’t give away 5,000 tickets, there was no reason to give them away.”, said Vaccaro in statements to Rádio Urbana Play.

He guaranteed that the established protocol is that a maximum of 200 free passes can be granted. “There is no reason to distribute 5,000 tickets for free in a complex socioeconomic context, where our organization’s equation is at its limit”, he insisted.

“I didn’t attend the last two meetings, but the staff told me they were friendly and kind,” Vaccaro added about the meetings that the president’s sister coordinated, Karina Milei.

Finally, this Thursday the presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorniinformed on his WhatsApp channel that the presentation of the book Milei It will be on May 22nd at Luna Park from Buenos Aires.

This legendary venue, opened in 1932, has hosted boxing’s biggest nights and has become a classic venue for music shows and political events. It has a maximum capacity for 8,400 people.

“Capitalism, socialism and the neoclassical trap. “From theory to political action”, Milei’s new book revolves around a central idea: The supposed “market failures” are nothing more than the resistance of some economists, the neoclassicals., abandon analysis schemes that do not account for reality. In other words, a purely academic approach typical of the president’s public speech, according to an analysis published by La Nación.

In his text, Milei states that these “failures” do not existand that any attempt to change them and rectify the direction of the economy ends up damaging the system as a whole and leads to socialism, notes La Nación.

Throughout the 300 pages of her book, Milei makes a strong defense of the market and even monopolies, and rejects any state intervention in the economy.

“Suppose I have 10 companies that sell cell phones and one of them produces a better cell phone, of better quality, at a better price. What will happen to the remaining nine? They go bankrupt. “I’m going to be angry with whoever conquered the entire market or I’m going to be grateful for having a better quality product at a better price,” he says. “This monopolist is a social benefactor because he generates a better quality product at a better price”, he adds.

Milei He also harshly criticizes the management Let’s change, his current political ally. “They believed that because they were supposedly smarter, more educated, spoke better English, and wore better suits, all of this implied that the same interventionist policies would work for them. However, the Macrista government (in reference to Mauricio Macri) failed miserably. for the same reason that all interventionist governments fail, which does not take into account that the problem with interventionist policies is not the people, but the interventionist ideas.”
