“We must do everything to reach an agreement.” Gil Diekman and Daniel Lifshitz have only the same sentence on their lips. They have been waiting more than 200 days for the return of loved ones still held in Gaza after the October 7 attacks. After Hamas put on the table an agreement under which it would hand over 33 hostages to Israel in the event of a truce, the families of the hostages want to pressure Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to bring their loved ones home.
At the same time, the start of a large-scale Israeli army operation in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip this Monday evening is seen as a new risk for the hostages. The Forum of Families of Hostages and Missing Persons, of which the two men are members, reiterated its desire for an agreement to be reached as soon as possible and called on the entire international community to support the truce in a press release issued on Tuesday at noon: Now is the time to exert influence on the Israeli government and all others parties involved to ensure an agreement is reached that will finally bring all our loved ones home.”
