How were the three Australian and American surfers murdered in Mexico?

Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson and American Jack Carter Rhoad arrived in the state of Baja California, in Mexico, following his passion for surfing. But the three met a tragic fate when they were murdered during an alleged attack to steal their truck.

Last week, Deborah Robinson, mother of the Australians, posted a message on Facebook asking for help finding her children. She said she didn’t know anything about Callum (33 years old) and Jake (30) since April 27th. He added that Callum was diabetic.

Before disappearing, the three friends had camped and surfed for several days on the south coast of the city of Cove, in a remote area where residents consider it unsafe to stay. Precisely the last photos they shared on social media showed them sitting watching the waves hit the rocks.

On Friday, May 3, authorities reported the discovery of four bodies in a good. On Sunday it was confirmed that three of them were missing young people. All had gunshot wounds to the head.

According to the preliminary hypothesis of the Baja California Attorney’s Office, The three friends stopped to surf Punta São Joséabout 80 kilometers south of Cove. There they were attacked on April 28 or 29.

The AP agency explained that When police arrived at the youths’ last known campsite, it was clear that something had gone wrong.

There were bloodstains and drag marks “like heavy packages”, which led to the suspicion of a strokeaccording to the Baja California prosecutor’s office.

According to authorities, The thieves killed the three men to steal their truck because they wanted the tires and other parts. They then disposed of the bodies, throwing them into a well about 15 meters deep, located 6.4 kilometers from the crime scene.

The fourth body found in the well had been there longer than the bodies of the young people.

The chief prosecutor of Baja California, Maria Elena Andrade Ramírezsaid the killers probably saw the foreigners’ truck and tents and They followed them for several days.

When they finally went to rob them, according to the prosecutor, the surfers resisted the attack and it was then that they were shot. in each of their heads.

“The attackers take out a weapon they had in their possession and deprive the life of those who initially opposed the robbery and then attack the other two (…) and also deprive them of their lives”, said the inspector.

So the killers went to what the prosecutor called “an extremely difficult place to get to” and threw the bodies into a well that they apparently knew.

Andrade said that investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the same suspects also dumped the other body in the good as part of some previous crime.

The thieves allegedly covered the well with boards, according to Univision. “It was literally almost impossible to find him,” Andrade said. He added that the task of recovering the bodies from the well took about two hours.

The criminals also tried to destroy the evidence hastily, as they burned the foreigners’ tents and their truck was driven kilometers away and also set on fire. The alleged attackers’ vehicle was later found with a gun inside.

So far, authorities have arrested three suspects in the crime. Two of them were caught with methamphetamine. One of them, A woman had one of the victims’ cell phones when she was arrested.

The third detainee is called Jesús Gerardo N, aka ‘El Kekas’, who has an extensive criminal record that includes drug trafficking, vehicle theft and domestic violence.

According to investigations, ‘El Kekas’ directly participated in the murders.
