Panama: President Cortizo and his successor Mulino will begin the transfer of command in June

The outgoing president of Panama, Laurentino Cortizoreceived his successor this Tuesday, the right-wing José Raúl Mulinoto discuss the transfer of command and coordinate its initiation.

“We have formally decided that the transition process begins on Monday, June 3“for the change of command on July 1, the Social Democratic president told the press after receiving Mulino at the Palace of Garças.

José Raúl Mulinoreplacement candidate for the former president Ricardo Martinelli (2009-2014), won Sunday’s elections among eight candidates with 34% of the votes. Presidential elections in Panama are decided in a single round by a simple majority.

“Thank you very much Mr President […] for this occasion that symbolizes a joint effort to direct and consolidate our democracy“, said Mulino, a 64-year-old lawyer and former Minister of Security under Martinelli.
