Investiture, military parade… Vladimir Putin’s grand parade in Moscow

“Oh, a French armored vehicle! Sergey, look, it’s metal! says the woman, tapping the barrel of the radio-controlled AMX-10, a French reconnaissance vehicle. This military prize has been on display for several days along with about ten other Western vehicles in the heart of Victory Park, near the center of Moscow. This is a way for the Kremlin to show that its difficulties at the front can be explained by the “collective West” actively working against its army in Ukraine. The crowd here is in a strange mixture of admiration for the West and hatred.

“Dad, are there any good French people here?” – the little boy asks his father. The man answered in the affirmative, “that we must distinguish between people and politicians.” Another man describes the quality of French armor to his wife before pulling himself together and saying: “It’s a real circus, I can’t wait until we win this war.” “Another said that he was ready to go to Paris: “We were enemies in 1812 and came to you. We are ready to do it again if necessary,” he explains, ending his sermon in German, alluding to the “Ukrainian Nazis” that Russia claims to be fighting since the February 24, 2022 invasion.
