Seven months after the start of the war sparked by Hamas attacks on October 7, Israel is testing the nerves of its Western allies. As the Jewish state launched its operation in Rafah, located in the far south of the Palestinian territory, on Monday by bombing the eastern part of the city, several states on the European and American continents raised their voices to condemn its actions.
On Tuesday, it was Belgium that slammed its fist on the table. “It is clear that international law is no longer respected in the Gaza Strip,” Belgian Cooperation Minister Caroline Gennes said. Prime Minister Alexander De Croo went further, questioning the European Union (EU) and his country’s economic ties with Benjamin Netanyahu’s. “Can we continue to have Israel as a trading partner? I don’t think so,” he said in an interview with the Dutch press.
