Italy: In Milan, a policeman was stabbed in the back, the suspect was arrested for attempted murder

Several Italian politicians rushed to comment on the tragic event. Christian Di Martino, a 35-year-old Italian policeman, was stabbed this Wednesday at Lambrate station in Milan. He is seriously injured”.

According to the Italian press, the man was hit in the back three times around 11:30 pm when he tried to stop a man who was throwing stones at a train and attacking a 50-year-old passerby.

The suspect, neutralized with a stun gun, was “arrested for attempted murder”, the police announced this Thursday in a publication on X. For his part, the policeman was taken in absolute emergency to the Niguarda Hospital.

This case has worried Italian politicians. Georgia Meloni called the facts surrounding X an “attack.” The President of the Italian Council specifies that the perpetrator is a “citizen of non-European origin” whose mental state is “altered.” Meloni says he is monitoring the injured officer’s health “with caution.”

Vice-head of the Italian government Matteo Salvini clarified on X that this person is a man of Moroccan origin who is in Italy without a visa.

Italian media, citing investigators, explain that since arriving in Milan in 2002, the man has already been involved in several cases, including disrespect for an agent and drug possession. In particular, he became the subject of a complaint last Sunday.

Since coming to power in October 2022, Georgia Meloni’s ultra-conservative government has stepped up its criticism of illegal immigration, which it has made a hobby of in the upcoming European elections.
