USA: Death toll from storm in Texas rises to 7, according to official data

At least seven people died after heavy rain, winds and even a tornado hit southern Mexico on Thursday. U.Sleaving serious damage in the city of Houston, in Texasaccording to a new report from the authorities.

Harris County Sheriff Ed González reported three new victims on Friday, in addition to four reported the day before, following the storm that hit winds of 160 kilometers per hour.

The National Weather Service also confirmed the passage of a tornado near the community of Cypress, neighboring Houston.

Houston Mayor John Whitmire had reported on Thursday the deaths of four people, due to what he described as a “exceptional storm”.

This Friday, the scene in downtown Houston, the fourth most populous city in the United States, with more than 2.3 million inhabitants, was one of devastation. Large buildings lost their windows and pieces of glass were scattered across the main streets.

In some parts of Harris County, trees fell on cars and even power poles succumbed to the winds, initially leaving a million homes without power.

As of Friday afternoon, around 650,000 families still did not have access to the service, according to county judge Lina Hidalgo.
