War in Ukraine: two dead and several wounded in Belgorod after a terrorist attack attributed to Kyiv

Two people were killed and four were injured in drone attacks and Ukrainian shelling in Russia’s Belgorod region and Lisichansk, a city occupied by Russian troops in eastern Ukraine, local authorities said. Another person, a police officer, was killed in Volchansk, a city located in the Kharkiv region, as Russia wages a major offensive there.

In the Belgorod region bordering Ukraine, one person was killed and two were injured as a result of bursts of Ukrainian drones shot down by the Russian military, local governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said. “To our great misfortune, a civilian died from a shrapnel wound” near the village of Belenkoye in the west of the Belgorod region, he wrote on Telegram.

According to Vyacheslav Gladkov, another civilian was wounded and hospitalized in the same village. The woman was injured and was hospitalized in Chebekino in the south of the Belgorod region.

The drone also hit a commuter train traveling through the region without passengers, and the railway track between the villages of Naumovka and Oktyabrskoye in the Belgorod region was damaged, Vyacheslav Gladkov said.

On the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, Russian air defense systems neutralized three Ukrainian drones over the Belgorod region and another over the Kaluga region, 140 km southwest of Moscow, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported.

Beyond the Ukrainian border

In addition, “one person was killed and two were injured” in Lisichansk – a city conquered by the Russian army in 2022 – as a result of the Ukrainian fire, according to emergency services quoted by the Russian TASS news agency. “Several houses were damaged,” the same source said.

At the same time, according to Kyiv, a Ukrainian policeman was killed in a Russian drone attack and another was wounded in Volchansk during the evacuation. The city is at the center of the fighting in the Kharkiv region, where Moscow has been waging an offensive since May 10.

“In Vovchansk, Russia fired at a police car during the evacuation. One policeman was killed and another was injured,” Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klimenko said on Telegram. “There were two policemen in the car who were on their way to save civilians,” he said.
