At least fourteen people died in a fire in a small apartment building in the city center Hanoithe capital of Vietnamstate media said on Friday.
“The fire started around 00:30. The fire was large, with several explosions.”, indicated the local news agency Vietnam News Agency.

After 6:00 am local time (23:00 GMT Thursday), 14 people were dead and three were injured, this outlet said, citing local authorities.
It is not known how many people were in the building when the fire started.. Firefighters extinguished the flames within an hour.
The five-story building is located in a two-meter-wide alley. The upper floors were rented and the ground floor was occupied by an establishment selling and repairing electric bicycles, according to the VNA agency.

A neighbor who did not want to be identified explained to AFP that she heard a “explosion like fireworks”. “I thought there was a fight or something banging on the window. I went out and saw the fire“, he said.
“Many neighbors fled the alley for other neighbors’ homes. We were so, so scared“, he said.
