Terrorist attack in Moscow: Russia admits IS responsibility for the first time

ISIS has already claimed responsibility for the attack, but Russian officials have so far insisted on citing the Ukrainian version.

“During the investigation (…) it was established that the preparation, financing, attack and withdrawal of terrorists were coordinated via the Internet by members of the Khorasan province group,” said the director of the Russian Security Service (FSB), Alexander Bortnikov, in the Afghan branch of EI, as quoted by RIA Novosti.

The attack was the deadliest in Russia in two decades and the worst the jihadist group Islamic State (IS) claims on European soil. IS confirmed the arrest of four of its members, whom it named as perpetrators of the attack.
