Rocket fire alarm in Tel Aviv for first time in months

This Sunday, warning sirens were sounded in Tel Aviv and central Israel, urging residents to take cover after rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip, AFP journalists reported.

The warning comes after months of relative calm in that region of the country, while the war between Israel and Palestinian Hamas in the Gaza Strip has lasted more than seven months. According to AFP journalists, at least three explosions were registered in central Israel.

The Israeli army said on Sunday that at least eight rockets were fired into the center of the country from Rafah, in the far south of the Gaza Strip, where its troops are fighting fierce battles with Palestinian armed groups.

The army said “some rockets were intercepted” and an AFP correspondent in the Gaza Strip said he saw rockets fired from Rafah.

Hamas’ military wing says it has hit Tel Aviv with “heavy rocket fire”
