Grupo de Diarios América awards El Comercio award for Best Investigative Report

This Thursday, October 14, the awards of the Group of Newspapers of America (GDA) with the participation of all the media that make up this regional group. Graciela Villasís, Head of the El Comercio Research Unit received first place award in the News or Investigative Report category for the work “Illegal payments to former President Martín Vizcarra” published in 2020.

During the award ceremony, Villasís thanked the support of the former director of the newspaper Juan José Garrido Koechlin as well as Juan Aurelio Arévalo Miró Quesada, our current director. He also thanked and highlighted a multidisciplinary team for their hard research work.

Villasís argued that the work was published at a time when former president Martín Vizcarra was at the peak of his popularity and acceptance, so it was a difficult situation for the entire team of the newspaper to publish the investigation due to political attacks and complaints they received. However, he pointed out that sooner or later everything came to light.

On the other hand, with respect to the previous GDA award, the newspaper The nation was the medium that received the award in the category Investigative News Report For his job “The notebooks of bribes.” A year later, in 2020, he was awarded again for his Investigative Report on the “Sexual abuse in the Argentine Church.”

Other winning media were El Universal de México with an honorable mention on the News Report “He’s alive, kill him” and the mention of Opinion Journalism on the handling of politicians in the pandemic. What’s more, The Nation of Argentina also received an award from the GDA, this time for the innovative editorial proposal “Thoroughly” and the content for Apps and Social Networks # LNTEACOMPAÑA.

For our media it is important to continue on the award path and highlight the quality journalism that we do every day. It should be noted that the commitment to our audience is to always make our main rectors present and always put forward the sense of independence, truthfulness and credibility.
