Inter-American Court of Human Rights condemns Colombia for torture of journalist Jineth Bedoya

The Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) condemned the Colombian State for various violations of the rights of journalist Jineth Bedoya, who was a victim of kidnapping, torture and sexual violence in the exercise of her profession in 2000.

“The state of Colombia is internationally responsible for the violation of the rights to personal integrity, personal freedom, honor, dignity and freedom of expression to the detriment of the journalist Jineth Bedoya Lima, as a result of the events that occurred on May 25, 2000, when she was intercepted and kidnapped at the gates of La Modelo Prison by paramilitaries and subjected to humiliating and extremely violent treatment, during which she suffered serious verbal, physical and sexual assaults ”, indicates the fault.

The Court added in the judgment, notified to the parties on Monday, that in this case it warned of the existence of “serious, precise and concordant evidence” of state participation in the aforementioned events. “
