The Mexican government has stated that the country is experiencing 10 consecutive weeks of reduction in the third wave of the epidemic.

“The contagions are decreasing, fortunately the problem of the pandemic is decreasing,” President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said at a public event in Baja California on Sunday.

The health authorities recognize that, based on the death certificates, the pandemic would be around 410,000 deaths in the country and estimate that Mexico actually accumulates 3,976,614 infections.

Of the total official figure, 32,136 are active cases, which have presented symptoms during the last 14 days and represent 0.8%.

In addition, since the beginning of the pandemic, 3,122,072 people have recovered.

The average occupancy of general beds in Mexican hospitals is 25% and 21% for intensive care beds.

With regard to deaths, Mexico City – the focus of the pandemic – accounts for about 18% of all deaths nationwide.

As of this Monday and until October 31, 20 of the 32 states that make up the country will be in the green color (low risk) of the epidemiological risk traffic light against covid-19.

In addition, 11 will be in yellow (medium risk), 1 in orange (high risk) and none in red (maximum risk).

VACCINATION PLAN

The authorities also indicated that the vaccination program, which includes all those over 18 years of age, accumulates more than 112.19 million doses applied, adding 255,361 during the last day.

So far, 69.1 million people over the age of 18 have at least one dose. That is, 77% of the total adult population.

Of that total, 75% (51.29 million) have received the complete scheme.

On Sunday, Mexico received 2.5 million doses of the Russian drug Sputnik V.

And this Monday, the pharmaceutical company of the Mexican State Birmex reported that the Sputnik V vaccine will be packaged in the country in the second half of November.

This once the Government of Mexico, through Birmex, signed on October 14 the agreement with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) to carry out the process of technological and analytical transfer.

Since the end of December 2020, 129.6 million doses of the Anglo-Swedish vaccines AstraZeneca, the Russian Sputnik V, the American Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson and Moderna, in addition to the Chinese CanSino and Sinovac have arrived in the country.

The Mexican Government estimated that by the end of October it could reach 120 million doses received, but it has already exceeded that goal and estimates that by the end of 2021 it will have received a total of 150 million doses.
