According to sources close to the commission, the report will contain harsh accusations against Bolsonaro, several of his ministers and other government authorities, businessmen linked to the ruling party and activists of the far-right denier.

The commission, made up of eleven senators of which four are part of the ruling party, was installed on April 27 and since then has held 67 hearings, in which it has heard the testimony of almost a hundred people, including ministers and senior officials. Government officials.

It has also analyzed electronic documents, many of which are still confidential and which, according to the commission itself, contain the equivalent of almost 10 terabytes of information.

According to Calheiros, numerous irregularities have been verified, ranging from the imposition in the public health network of remedies without proven efficacy against COVID-19 to strong suspicions of corruption in the negotiation of vaccines.

Likewise, serious indications were found about a network of far-right activists who, in an alleged combination with officials from the Ministry of Health and the Presidency itself, massively disseminated false information about the pandemic, minimizing its severity and in line with the discourse maintained. by Bolsonaro.

Calheiros has suggested that his report will recommend that both the president and some government officials and people from the pro-government environment respond to justice for multiple crimes against public health, which will be detailed in his report, which will be put to a vote next week.

In case of being approved with a simple majority by the eleven members of the commission, the report will be sent to the Public Ministry, the Court of Accounts, other bodies responsible for supervising the actions of the Government and the ordinary Justice, which will have the last word on eventual prosecutions.

Bolsonaro has disqualified the performance of the commission, on which he maintains that it is dominated by an opposition that “does not want the truth” about the pandemic and intends to evict him from power before the presidential elections scheduled for October 2022.
