On Tuesday, the Mexican government stated that the country is approaching its “absolute low point” of COVID-19 cases after 11 consecutive weeks of reduction in the third wave of infections.

The health authorities recognize that, based on the death certificates, the pandemic would be around 410,000 deaths in the country and estimate that Mexico actually accumulates 3,991,476 infections.

Of the total official figure, 33,880 are active cases, which have presented symptoms during the last 14 days and represent 0.8%.

In addition, 3,133,267 people have recovered since the start of the pandemic.

The average occupancy of general beds in Mexican hospitals is 23% and 21% for intensive care beds.

With regard to deaths, Mexico City – the focus of the pandemic – accounts for about 18% of all deaths nationwide.

VACCINATION PLAN

The authorities also indicated that the vaccination program, which includes all those over 18 years of age, accumulates more than 113.47 million doses applied, adding 450,121 during the last day.

So far, 69.61 million people over the age of 18 have at least one dose. That is, 78% of the total adult population.

Of that total, 75% (52.11 million) have received the complete scheme.

Between Sunday and Wednesday, Mexico received 9.3 million doses, the largest supply since vaccines began arriving in the country.

Since the end of December 2020, 136.4 million doses of the Anglo-Swedish vaccines AstraZeneca, the Russian Sputnik V, the American Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson and Moderna, in addition to the Chinese CanSino and Sinovac have arrived in Mexico.

The Mexican government estimated that by the end of October it could reach 120 million doses received, but it has already exceeded that goal and hopes that before the end of 2021 it will receive a total of 150 million doses.
