“Even though the regime’s claim is to evade international justice, it is one more step from which we face the dictatorship in the search for justice and peace for Venezuela,” Guaidó wrote on his Twitter account.

In the opinion of the opponent, the 23-year prison sentence “reveals the fear” of the International Criminal Court (ICC), “both the intellectual authors of the repression of protests and the operators of the dictatorship who hijack justice.”

“Simulation of justice is not justice”, he affirmed before recognizing “the work of the families of the victims and human rights defenders.

Bolivarian Military Aviation Sergeant Arli Méndez Terán was sentenced this Friday to 23 years in prison as responsible for the murder of Vallenilla, one of the deaths that caused the most impact from those demonstrations.

The news of the sentence was released by the attorney general, Tarek William Saab, who explained that it was issued by the 15th Court of Trial and clarified that the military man was convicted of the crimes of “qualified homicide” and “improper use of organic weapons.” .

Last September, Judge Kenia Carrillo acquitted Sergeant Méndez Terán, which opened a strong controversy after which the Prosecutor’s Office opened a criminal investigation against the magistrate and appealed her decision.

There are various videos, testimonies and studies of the murder that were presented by Vallenilla’s defense before the court and that, at the time of the crime, provoked a wave of indignation.
