Venezuela begins vaccination against the coronavirus for those over 12 years old in schools

Venezuela began this Monday the vaccination day against the coronavirus covid-19 for Venezuelan adolescents over 12 years of age in 5,000 educational centers throughout the country, reported the executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, who did not detail the vaccine that is being applied to students.

“As of today, those over 12 years of age begin vaccination in Venezuela, within the framework of the immunization plan to gradually incorporate us into the normality of our country in the face of this pandemic ”, The official said in a transmission of the State channel VTV, on the occasion of the return to face-to-face classes, suspended 19 months ago because of the pandemic.

Rodríguez explained that “5,000 high schools nationwide are activated as vaccination centers”, adding that “parents who have not yet been vaccinated can go to these centers to do so.”

During a connection of the state channel with a school in the state of Zulia, on the border with Colombia, the health professional Omaira Prieto assured that the minors had been injected with the first dose of the Chinese vaccine Sinopharm -a data omitted by the official-, without specifying if it is the only one that will be used to inoculate children.

“As of today, as indicated by our president Nicolas Maduro In his address yesterday, we began with the vaccination in high schools of all students over 12 years of age. We are giving them the first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine ”, Prieto said.

The vice president also assured that “very soon” they will begin “to vaccinate children older than 2 years.”

The vaccination process in Venezuela It has accelerated in the last month with the arrival of several batches from Sputnik, Sinovac -through the Covax mechanism-, and from the Chinese Sinopharm.

“We have a goal (…) for December 31, to have vaccinated 95% of the vaccinable population and to have generated the highest level of the so-called herd immunity”, stressed.
