Colombian judge orders Martha Sepúlveda to be euthanized and gives 48 hours for it to be scheduled

The Interdisciplinary Scientific Committee for the Right to Die with Dignity had concluded on October 8 that Martha she had presented an improvement after having seen an interview of the patient on television.

However, after the cancellation of the procedure, which was harshly questioned by the family, legal actions were taken and today a judge agreed with a guardianship they filed.

“The Judge recognized that the IPS Incodol violated the fundamental rights to die with dignity, to a dignified life, to the free development of the personality and human dignity of Martha Sepúlveda. He also recognized that, as dictated by the Act of August 6, 2021, Martha Sepúlveda does comply with the requirements established by the current regulations to access legal euthanasia within the framework of the Colombian Health System. No one can be required to have a terminal illness to be able to access euthanasia in Colombia, “DescLAB, which advises Sepúlveda, who is 51 years old and suffers from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), reported in a statement.
