Bogotá does not register deaths from coronavirus for the first time in 17 months

Colombia registered 1,680 new infections and 26 deaths due to coronavirus covid-19 in a day in which for the first time in 17 months there were no deaths in Bogotá, another indication that the disease is remitting in the country.

With today’s positive cases, the total number of infected in the country rises to 4,995,694, while the deceased are 127,159 since the first case was reported on March 6, 2020.

The deaths of the day, of which 24 occurred in previous days, were reported in the departments of Antioquia (7); Magdalena and Valle del Cauca (5); Norte de Santander (3), and Amazonas, Bolívar, Cesar, La Guajira, Risaralda and Santander (1).

“The first death from covid-19 in Bogota It was reported on April 20, 2020. Today, 556 days later, we have zero deaths from covid-19 in our city for the first time. What a huge collective effort we made to get to this happy day ”, highlighted the mayor on Twitter.

Regarding new infections, the highest numbers were in Atlántico (373) Antioquia (354), Norte de Santander (175), Bogotá (159), Valle del Cauca (126) and Magdalena (109).

12,504 cases are still active in the country.

Today 41,131 samples were processed, of which 18,356 were PCR and 22,775 antigens, for a total of 26.65 million tests performed.

VACCINES ABUNDANCE

The Minister of Health, Fernando Ruiz, announced this Wednesday that those who contracted the covid-19 They will no longer have to wait 90 days to be vaccinated but will be able to do it now in 30 days, since the country has enough vaccines.

He also recalled that for “all the people who received AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, in which an interval of 84 days between doses had been established, this period was modified and the application of the second dose can now be done 30 days after the first dose ”.

According to data from the Ministry, the country has received 63.5 million vaccines and as of Monday 46.2 million doses had been applied, which means that there are 17.3 million available.

On Monday, according to the Ministry of Health, 215,024 vaccines were applied, of which 91,901 correspond to second doses and 42,223 to the single-dose formula of the pharmaceutical company Janssen.

The Government has distributed 52.9 million vaccine vaccines to regional authorities and a total of 20,720,822 people have their complete vaccination scheme and 163,378 people have received booster doses.
