Thus, since the beginning of the health emergency, in February 2020, the Latin American giant has already accumulated 607,694 deaths and 21,804,094 confirmed cases of covid-19, according to the most recent bulletin issued daily by the National Council of Secretaries of Health (Conass) of the 27 states of the country.

The data confirm Brazil, with its 213 million inhabitants, as one of the three countries most affected by the disease in the world, next to the United States and India.

However, the pandemic has shown a clear downward trend since the end of June, attributed by experts to the acceleration of the vaccination process that began throughout the country in mid-January.

Until this Saturday, more than 72.4% of the Brazilian population already had at least one dose of the anticovid vaccine, while 56% have the complete schedule.

Likewise, the daily average number of fatalities in the last seven days was 320 today, while the daily average number of cases was 11,505.

The slowdown in the pandemic has led to greater flexibility in social distancing measures in much of the country, although specialists warn that the crisis is not fully controlled and ask for caution in reopening.

In this sense, Rio de Janeiro has been the pioneer in lifting the mandatory use of the mask in open places, since, according to official data, the municipality presents a “low risk” for covid and reached its lowest level of admitted patients by covid since the beginning of the health crisis, with only 2.4% of the beds occupied.

Already in the state of Sao Paulo, the most populated in Brazil with some 46 million inhabitants, the number of people hospitalized with the disease today totaled 3,400 patients, less than half of what was registered a year ago (6,949), when the curve infections and deaths began to fall in the region.
