More than 600 people evacuated by a fire in a hotel in Cancun

The authorities mexican They evacuated this Sunday more than 600 tourists and workers from a hotel in Cancun, in the Mexican Caribbean, due to a fire in the warehouses on the third floor of the building.

Before the arrival of the firefighters, there were moments of great tension as several tourists were trapped in the last levels due to the smoke and began to break the windows of their rooms to breathe until they were rescued.

According to the municipal Civil Protection direction, 650 people were evacuated from the hotel, mainly tourists, who were separated and sent to the beach area and in front of the Dreams Sands Cancun hotel, while firefighting units carried out maneuvers to suffocate the fire.

The tourists sat on the grass for several hours, some were wearing beach clothes and others managed to remove some of their luggage.

The Dreams Sands hotel is located in Punta Cancún, one of the busiest areas since it is where the destination’s busiest nightclubs, shopping malls and restaurants are, as well as the most visited public beaches during the weekend.

That is why the fire alarm could be heard in a wide area.

Firefighters and Civil Protection personnel who were in the place told the media that they managed to rescue tourists who were in their rooms and others who were in the elevators at the time the alarms were activated.

There are no injuries, only some people with minor intoxication were reported.

Elements of the fire brigade, private ambulances, Civil Protection and the Tourist Police participated in the security operation.

In addition to the fire trucks, several water pipes (tanker trucks) had to be requested to control the fire.
