An apprentice rider is in a coma after falling from her horse after crossing the finish line

Hannah Fitzgerald, 18, is an apprentice jockey who remains in critical condition after participating – last Saturday – in the race in Kalgoorli, Western Australia, where she suffered a spectacular fall seconds after crossing the finish line.

Following the incident, Hannah was rushed to the Kalgoorlie Health Campus before being airlifted to the Royal Perth Hospital because he had bleeding in the brain. She is in an induced coma.

Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) Chief Executive Officer Ian Edwards issued a statement to inform them that they are launching a comprehensive investigation to determine the causes of what happened.
