New York suspends thousands of employees without pay who did not want to be vaccinated against the coronavirus

According to De Blasio, 91% of public employees have complied with the vaccine requirement, with 3,564 who have done so since Friday.

“TWe have approximately 9,000 employees on leave of absence and without salary, out of a total of almost 400,000 ″, the mayor said in his daily press conference. To this number should be added the other 12,000 officials who have requested a religious or medical exemption and are awaiting a response.

The Democrat, who is nearing the end of his second and final four-year term, was pleased to indicate that since he ordered the inoculation for city employees on October 20, there are 22,472 new vaccinated personnel.

While among cleaning employees, those who have fulfilled the requirement to keep their job increased from 62% to 83%.

The main police union has gone to court to no avail in an attempt to stop the mandate, which first hit teachers and health workers in August and then spread to other government agencies.
