Palestinian teenager killed in West Bank by Israeli army

A Palestinian teenager was killed by the army on Friday Israeli during clashes on the sidelines of a protest in the northern occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Health Ministry reported.

Mohammed Daadas, 13, was shot in the stomach by Israeli forces in the village of Deir al-Hatab, near Nablus, the ministry told AFP.

He was hospitalized in cardiac arrest and could not be saved, the source said.

At the request of AFP, the Israeli army said it was “examining” the circumstances of the incident.

Five Palestinians were injured during Friday’s rallies in the towns of Beita and Beit Dajan, according to the official Palestinian Wafa news agency.

Beita has been the scene for months of demonstrations against an Israeli settlement located nearby. The protests have often degenerated into clashes with the army, leading to deaths.

Israel last week approved the construction of more than 3,000 new settler homes in West bank occupied despite “strong” criticism of Israel’s settlement policy by Joe Biden’s government in Washington.

Around 475,000 Israeli settlers live in West bank, along with 2.8 million Palestinians.

Israeli colonization, which is illegal under international law, has continued under all Israeli governments since 1967.

It has accelerated in recent years under the impetus of former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

His successor, Naftali Bennett, has been at the forefront of a heterogeneous coalition since mid-June that goes from the radical right to the left-wing parties and supports the paralysis of the settlements.
