Germany registers absolute record of coronavirus infections with more than 50,000 cases in one day

Germany on Thursday recorded the highest number of daily covid-19 infections since the start of the pandemic, with 50,196 new cases in 24 hoursaccording to the Robert Koch Health Surveillance Institute.

It is the first time that the threshold of 50,000 daily cases has been exceeded in Germany, currently hit by a virulent wave that has left several records of infections in recent days.

The number of new deaths this Thursday was 235.

Relaunch vaccination

“We have to take very numerous necessary measures to get through this winter. We must warm our country this winter ”, Scholz, current vice chancellor, urged Parliament, where his party presented, together with his future partners, new provisions to fight the covid.

The future government coalition is committed to a new vaccination campaign, a major offensive of detection tests and restrictions for unvaccinated people.

“The first and most important thing is not to give in our efforts so that the maximum number of citizens are vaccinated. Not everyone is still convinced that this is what they should do ”, Scholz lamented.

“We know what the consequence will be: a very, very large number of those who are not vaccinated will become infected (…) It is what we hope”, He warned.

The pressure is growing in hospitals.

Germany It has already had to start transferring patients from the most affected regions, especially in the east of the country that is more reluctant to vaccination, to others where the situation is still under control.

This wave is attributed in particular to the weak vaccination rate of the population in Germany, just under 67%. Vaccination is not mandatory in the country, even for medical personnel.

“Spectacular” spread

The Minister of Health, Jens Spahn, recently called this new wave of infections a “pandemic of the unvaccinated”.

Angela Merkel indicated on Wednesday that the spike in infections experienced especially since October in the country was “dramatic.”

“The pandemic is spreading again in a spectacular way”, lamented his spokesman, asking the regional authorities, competent in health management, to take new measures to contain the expansion.

Several particularly affected states, such as Saxony, Bavaria or recently Berlin, have introduced new restrictions for unvaccinated people.

In the capital, unvaccinated people will not be able to access restaurants without terraces, bars, gyms or hairdressers, not even if they have a negative test.

In total, almost 4.9 million people have been infected with COVID-19 in Germany since the start of the pandemic. The country has more than 83 million inhabitants.
