Argentina will donate about a million vaccines against the coronavirus to five countries

Argentina donate nearly one million doses of AstraZeneca’s vaccine against coronavirus COVID-19 to five countries, the Government announced this Thursday in a series of decrees published in its Official Gazette.

“Guided by the principles of solidarity and fraternity”, as stated in the document, Argentina will donate 450,000 doses to Mozambique, 18.000 a St. Lucia, 11.000 a Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, 500.000 a Vietnam and 2,000 doses at Dominican Republic, “Designed to generate immunity against COVID-19.

In the decrees signed by the president Alberto Fernandez it is established that the country has a sufficient quantity of vaccines for donation “without affecting the objectives outlined in its Strategic Vaccination Plan against COVID-19″, While “it registers a constant decrease in the number of cases in the last 20 weeks” due to the advance of the inoculation and the care measures.

The document also states that the “global challenge” posed by the pandemic “requires a strategy of solidarity aimed at equitable access to vaccines”, an action with which Argentina has already benefited by receiving more than 7 million vaccines donated by United States, Canada, Mexico and Spain.

Argentina reports more than 5.3 million infections and some 116,000 deaths during the pandemic.

According to the latest official data released yesterday, with a population close to 45 million inhabitants, 62.7 million doses have been applied in the country and 77 million distributed since the vaccination campaign against covid-19 began, to end of last December.

A total of 35.4 million people received the first dose of the vaccine, while 26.9 million were inoculated with the second and another 322,356 received an additional booster dose.
