USA: Virginia Pharmacy Administered Adult Doses of Coronavirus Vaccine to 112 Children

At least 112 children received the wrong doses of the vaccine against coronavirus COVID-19 at a pharmacy in Loudoun County, Virginia (USA). The staff injected them with the doses intended for adults.

The Department of Health of said county alerted on this situation, alleging that “Ted Pharmacy, at Aldie, incorrectly administered partial doses of adult vaccines to children, probably not fully protecting them or even giving them too much.”.

“Because they didn’t have the infant formula, they used the adult formula, but they only gave a third of the amount to the children.”Department of Health Director David Goodfriend told the Washington Post.

“We understand that in Ted Pharmacy they were trying to come up with an alternative solution, but this is not authorized “, said.

Faced with this situation, the authorities carried out an inspection of the pharmacy and confiscated all the doses against the drug. coronavirus; ordering, in addition, that the administration of the premises communicate with the families of the vaccinated children alerting about the situation.

Likewise, the pharmacy must provide families with a guide to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for children to receive their second injection in three weeks, as planned, or even to restart the series of two injections.

Authorities were alerted to this situation by a parent who noticed that the doses for the children came from vials with the wrong color cap.

Dasha Hermosilla pointed out to Fox 5 that he noticed that her 7-year-old daughter received the vaccine with a purple cap, intended for ages 12 and older, rather than the new one for younger children, which is covered in orange.

“I would never have done this if I had known they were administering the reformulated adult vaccine. Absolutely not”Hermosilla said.

Ester Megally, who is listed in the corporate files as the owner of Ted Pharmacy, did not comment when the Washington Post contacted her by phone on Thursday.

“It is a work day for us now and we are a bit busy. Sorry”he told the newspaper.
