Violent day leaves 15 dead in the Mexican state of Guanajuato

At least 15 people were killed in two different events that occurred this Saturday in the central Mexican state of Guanajuatolocal authorities reported this Sunday.

The first massacre occurred in the community Big door, in the municipality of Silao, where an armed group shot several people. Four died at the scene, three men and one woman, while another six died when they were treated at the hospital.

Among the fatalities there was a minor, as confirmed by the State Attorney General’s Office, which also indicated that transparent plastic wrappers with a crystalline granulated substance were found at the scene.

Hours later, another multiple homicide was registered, this time in the municipality of Apaseo El Grande, located 100 kilometers from Silao.

An armed commando entered a home in the San Telmo neighborhood and shot five people, including a 14-year-old boy and a girl.

In addition, the Prosecutor’s Office reported that in the attack an 8-month-old baby was injured by a warhead embedded in his arm.

At the scene, criminal experts collected evidence, including a card with a message referring to a criminal group.

Since 2018, Guanajuato it ranks as the state with the most intentional homicides in the country derived from the territorial dispute between criminal groups, according to local authorities.

Official data establish that, from January to September 2021, 2,655 people were murdered in the state, a figure that represents 10.4% of those registered throughout the country.

Those same figures indicate that Guanajuato it has a rate of 42.47 murder victims per 100,000 inhabitants, which is double the national average, which is 19.69 homicides per 100,000 people.

Mexico has recorded the two most violent years in its history during the first two years of Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, with 34,689 murder victims in 2019 and 34,558 in 2020.
