Russia records new record for coronavirus deaths with 1,247 deaths

Russia registered today, after eight consecutive days above 1,200 deaths by coronavirus, a new record of deaths from the contagious disease, with 1,247 deaths in the last day, reported the operational center to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

Most of the deaths occurred in Moscow (96), followed by Saint Petersburg (84) and the Krasnodar region (58).

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 259,084 people have died in Russia due to the coronavirus, although the official statistics on excess deaths in the same period almost double this figure.

According to the Worldometer database, Russia is currently the first country in the world – and in Europe – with the most daily deaths from coronavirus, ahead of Ukraine.

In addition, 36,626 new cases of covid-19 were identified throughout the country in the last 24 hours.

Moscow, the focus of the pandemic in Russia, reported 2,966 new infections, ahead of the Saint Petersburg region (2,793).

Russia is also the first country in the world with the most new cases of covid-19, according to Worldometer, ahead of the Czech Republic.

In total, the country accumulates 9,182,538 cases of coronavirus in its 85 regions.

Russia is the fifth country in the world after the United States, India, Brazil and the United Kingdom in the number of documented infections.

The Russian authorities attribute the sharp increase in new infections and deaths to the aggressiveness of the delta variant, the lack of strict compliance with sanitary rules by many Russians and, above all, to the low vaccination rate in the country.

So far in the nation that was a pioneer when it comes to registering its own anticovid vaccine, only 57,961,578 citizens have received the complete vaccination schedule, which places herd immunity in only 49% of the 80% to which they aspire. authorities.

Faced with the worsening of the epidemic situation, the Government has sent a bill to Parliament to introduce the mandatory use of a health pass in public places and in transport.

The government plans to implement the new law, which has yet to receive the approval of parliamentarians, as of February 1.

Until then, the unvaccinated will be able to access the establishments “free of covid”And use other non-essential services with a negative PCR test.
