A man kills a store clerk in Taiwan who asked him to wear a mask

The police of Taiwan arrested a man accused of stabbing a supermarket clerk who asked him to wear a mask, Taiwanese media reported today.

The suspect, surname Chiang, went to the store, located in Taoyuan, in the north of the island, at 4 in the morning of this Sunday (20.00 GMT on Saturday) and he left it after an argument with the clerk, who asked him to put on a mask.

Shortly after, Chiang He returned to the store and threw a mask at the employee’s face, according to the head of the local police station, Feng Li-tse, who was quoted in local media.

According to Feng, Chiang He returned a third time to the establishment at 5.25 in the morning (21.25 GMT on Saturday) armed with a knife, with which he stabbed several times at the employee’s chest, who died shortly after in a hospital to which he had been transferred after some witnesses call an ambulance.

According to the CNA news agency, Chiang claimed after his arrest that he suffered from psychological problems and did not remember the alleged murder.

The mask remains mandatory in Taiwan as a precaution against covid-19.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 848 deaths from covid have been registered on the island, which has a population of 23 million.
